Do it Yourself: Should I install low-flow showerheads in my home? Is it really worth it?
Answer: Absolutely! A low-flow showerhead can reduce the amount of water you use when showering by up to 30 percent. You can pick up one up from your local home improvement store for $10 – $30. And they’re easy to install. Here’s what you’ll want to do:
- You may need to use an adjustable wrench to remove your old showerhead
- Once removed, take it with you to purchase the new one. You’ll need to know whether or not it has matching threads.
- Check your new package to see if you need to purchase a rubber washer for proper installation, along with teflon tape in some cases (read directions).
- Installing your new low-flow showerhead is as simple as the removal of your old one.
Tip: When installing the new showerhead, wrap a cloth around the fitting so that you don’t damage the chrome with the pliers.
