SCOPE:

  • Tub Surround — Remove damaged tile and backer board and re-tile with 6×6 standard white tile (with new towel bar and soap dish).  Used Hardie-Backer with red-guard to seal gaps.
  • Plumbing – Replaced shower fixture with new customer-provided unit purchased at Lowe’s.  This particular fixture had both flow and temperature control in single handle.
  • Walls – Remove wallpaper and texture / paint.  Repaired acoustic ceiling where needed.

LESSONS LEARNED:

  • Tub Surround — Typically, the average tub-surround life is 15-20 years.  This installation lasted much longer, but waiting longer can mean more water damage.  Fortunately, the framing was not damaged to the point of replacement — just need to clean.
  • Wallpaper Removal — The process can be difficult sometimes — especially when the wall was not prepared for the wallpaper application.  When matching existing texture, it is recommended that you bring in a professional — that way the resulting work will look like it was planned on day 1 .
